Pixel-art portrait of Stephen Nix

Stephen Nix

Automation & Full-Stack Engineer

I build the software managed service providers run on: endpoint tooling in PowerShell, C# and Go, integrations across RMM and PSA platforms, and full-stack TypeScript products with AI built in. Fifteen years in managed IT, from repairing workstations to running a NOC to nearly seven years leading the DevOps team at ProVal Technologies.

Where I've worked

  1. ProVal Technologies

Automation content, tools and integrations for MSPs

    Apr 2019 – Present

    • Senior Consultant – RPA & Automation Jan 2026 – Present
    • DevOps Team Lead Apr 2019 – Jan 2026

Led the team that writes ProVal's scripts, modules and tools: the code that runs on client endpoints, the desktop and server tools behind it, the integrations between RMM, PSA and documentation platforms, and the standards everyone writes against. Now consulting on RPA and automation engagements.

    • Created Strapper, a cross-platform PowerShell toolkit for logging, registry work and module bootstrapping. It underpins 400+ files of ProVal content and has been downloaded 13.6 million times from the PowerShell Gallery.
    • Top contributor to the company script library (900+ of ~1,860 commits) and to content.provaltech.com (660+ commits), the public documentation for ProVal's catalogue of RMM content.
    • Wrote ProVal's development standards for code and documentation, and built automation that enforces branch rulesets across every company repository.
    • Built ProSync, a C# ConnectWise Automate plugin and API that reviews, approves and distributes content from a central server to many Automate instances, plus StickySync, an Automate plugin that syncs passwords into IT Glue.
    • Shipped endpoint tools in .NET and Go: Soji (disk cleanup), Prompter (interactive user prompts), and WindowsUpgrader, a single-binary tool that runs unattended Windows 10 → 11 and feature-update upgrades.
    • Led security response tooling: extended Datto's Log4Shell detection tool with faster file search, LunaSec scanning and a new logging system, and wrote mitigation modules for SMBGhost, SWEET32 and BEAST.
    • Ran platform migrations: converted Kaseya VSA procedures into RMM-agnostic PowerShell for NinjaOne, each with a Pester suite and a PSScriptAnalyzer gate, and built Transitus, an Avalonia/.NET workbench for moving data between IT Glue and SQL Server.
    • Built integrations and cloud services: PageSignal, a Chromium extension that syncs ServiceNow, ConnectWise and Jira tickets into HaloPSA with Supabase middleware and weekly AI analysis; an Azure Durable Functions pipeline that builds seven ConnectWise PSA and Sell reports in parallel and delivers them to SharePoint; and a .NET library for the Kaseya VSA API.
    • Helped hire: built the technical assessment site used to screen candidates for ProVal's AI Automation Engineer role.
  2. Snap Tech IT

    NOC Manager

    Sep 2014 – Apr 2019

    • Rolled out ConnectWise Automate and ran it as administrator, migrating 70+ client environments onto it.
    • Built a system in PowerShell and C# that securely synced technician Active Directory accounts across 70+ client domains.
    • Built secure monitoring for Datto backups in C#, parsing backup status XML.
    • Automated fixes for recurring problems with PowerShell, C# and Automate scripting.
    • Kept the NOC meeting all seven of its assigned KPIs throughout the year.
    • Core member of the team that moved the company's 8 servers to Microsoft Azure over a single weekend.
  3. Avision Technologies

    Senior Network Engineer

    Sep 2013 – Sep 2014

    • Rolled out N-able RMM and administered it, migrating 50+ client environments.
    • Used PowerShell to push large changes across client environments on tight deadlines.
    • Senior escalation point for support tickets.
  4. A.D.B. Services

    Level II Technician

    Jun 2011 – Sep 2013

    • Administered 30+ Active Directory and Exchange environments and handled escalations.
    • Moved the company to Zendesk for ticketing and built a new company website.
  5. Medical Practice Technologies

    Computer Repair Technician

    Apr 2008 – Mar 2009

    • Supported 20+ doctor's offices on site and built 200+ workstations to client specs.
    • Trained in VBScript scripting by the company's lead developer.
